Wadaiko Yamato Annual New Year Concert in Nara
On January 10th, Wadaiko Yamato held the New Year concert at the Nara Cultural Concert Hall. It was sold out! We were happy! Thank you very much!
Starting the day before the concert, we began unloading, setting up lights, sound equipment and setting the drums. We worked diligently to prepare for the performance. This will be the first time we play the “Matsuri” program in Japan. We’ve done numerous concerts in many foreign countries, but whenever we play the Nara concert we feel increased pressure to perform well for our hometown audience. Therefore we were quite nervous.
Especially, Takeru, our star performer became quite nervous. He was not here for last year’s Nara concert on account of his studying in the US for a year. It has been a long time since he performed in Nara so he became very tense. When the curtain opened, he seemed to be disconnected, playing at his own pace. But it wasn’t long before everyone`s warm cheers, applause and the communication with the audience brought him back and he was able to relax.
In the end every member was able to play to their full capacity. We expended all our energy that we had saved up during the New Year holidays. After the concert we talked with the people who came to see our performance and our energy level was revived. We used that energy to clean up the stage. Because setting up took so long, the take down seem to pass very quickly. The next day, however, we were almost like an empty shell.
We truly enjoyed our Nara concert. Thank you to everyone on the staff. You did a wonderful job. The year begins again and we will set out to give concerts all around the world and in another year we will return to Nara. We hope we can see you all next year again.
By the way, we will give concerts in Japan during June and July! If Nara is too far for you this is your chance to see our show. Please take a look at year 2010 schedule page to see what cities we will visit.
So everyone, we wish you a wonderful year, full of health and energy!
